Description

The Exo Terra Reptile UVB 100 emits an optimal level of UVB radiation, imitating conditions in a rainforest or other similar partially shaded environments. Due to dense foliage, frequent weather changes or high humidity, animals living in such environments receive a moderate amount of UV radiation from direct sunlight.

The Exo Terra Reptile UVB 100 lamps are designed to replicate the natural UV radiation that reptiles receive in the wild, providing optimal levels of both UVA and UVB. In their natural habitats, these animals are constantly exposed to UV radiation. Even nocturnal species, often thought to avoid sunlight, sometimes benefit from exposure to ultraviolet radiation. Exo Terra UV lamps ensure optimal synthesis of vitamin D3, which is crucial for calcium absorption. Adequate calcium absorption is essential for reptile health, helping to prevent metabolic diseases. At the wavelength generated by the Exo Terra lamps (approximately 294 nm), vitamin D3 synthesis is most active!

Metabolic bone disease (MBD) is a fairly common disorder in captive reptiles, resulting from an imbalance of minerals, mainly calcium, phosphorus and insufficient vitamin D3. Symptoms include weakened bone structure, body tremors and lethargy. A key cause is lack of exposure to ultraviolet B (UVB) light. Reptiles need UVB to synthesise vitamin D3, which is necessary for calcium processing. The use of UVB lamps is essential for the prevention of MBD.

Vitamin D3 not only supports calcium metabolism, essential for bone health, but also strengthens the reptile’s immune system. When animals absorb UVB rays, they produce vitamin D3, which in turn helps regulate immune responses and fight disease. Adequate UVB exposure plays a key role in strengthening reptiles’ immunity, making them less susceptible to various ailments.

Ultraviolet light (UVA and UVB rays) is crucial to the overall wellbeing of reptiles. Exposure to these wavelengths stimulates natural behaviour and boosts appetite, stimulates reproduction and improves the overall health of reptiles. UVA mainly has a positive effect on mood and vision, as well as on activities such as reproduction and foraging. UVB helps in the synthesis of vitamin D3, which affects calcium metabolism and overall vitality.

About brand

Exo Terra is one of the most recognizable terrarium brands in the world and at the same time one of the manufacturers that has had the strongest influence on the development of modern equipment for reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. The brand belongs to Hagen Group, a family-owned company founded in 1955 by Rolf C. Hagen, and operates as a specialized segment focused on terrarium keeping. This is important because Exo Terra is backed by strong organizational resources, many years of experience in the pet industry, and extensive international distribution. For years, the manufacturer has been developing solutions designed to create more natural, functional, and modern conditions for exotic animals kept in captivity.

The Exo Terra range covers virtually all the basic categories needed to build and maintain a terrarium. The brand’s portfolio includes terrariums, lighting systems, heat sources, substrates, decorations, equipment components, humidity control systems, feeding accessories, and many complementary products. This comprehensive product range is one of the brand’s greatest strengths. For the customer, it means the possibility of building a coherent setup based on a single manufacturer. Exo Terra is present both in starter products for beginners and in equipment used in more advanced display terrariums.

For years, the brand has built its position on a combination of functionality, wide availability, and strong educational support. Exo Terra is not limited solely to selling equipment, but also develops materials that help users better understand animal needs and properly select equipment for specific species. This is important because in terrarium keeping, simply buying a terrarium, lamp, or decoration is not enough - what matters is how it is used and whether it matches the biological requirements of the animal. Exo Terra therefore remains an important brand both for people starting their journey with terrarium keeping and for more experienced keepers looking for proven solutions, a wide selection, and strong product compatibility within one system.
